A lot of boxes

Having too many possession can be harmful to you if you are not careful. The thought of trowing away most of your possessions can be overwhelming. In this article I want to share with you why having too many possessions can harm your overall health.

Everyday we accumulate small things that go unnoticed. It just keeps on piling up over the course of years. We tend not to see the extra things until others point it out. It’s so gradual, that we never notice that we have too many possessions that we have accumulated in our life. Most of which we never use.

Here’s why I think having too many possessions can be harmful.

1. Bad air quality

Having too many possessions in your home can cause bad air quality. Things give off odor and cause the air to have a funky smell. Having too many possessions stacked up causes restrictions of air flow to circulate in your home. Proper ventilation is required to keep your home from moisture. Throwing away unnecessary clutter can help reduce indoor pollution.

2. Dust accumulation

Dust start to accumulate and reach into crevices. Having to move a lot of items in your house to clean regularly can be a hassle. Most people just leave it or clean around it. Some may not know this, but most of the dust also come from our body. Our skin sells need to regenerate and that means we shed dead skin cell from our skin. Our hair also falls out to regrow newer hair. All of this contributes to dust build up inside home. This is why it’s important to regularly clean. Fewer things in your home will make cleaning easier.

3. Fire and trip hazard

With so many things that we have around, it can be a fire hazard. Most people block wall outlets with boxes or clothes. These are things that can easily combustible and spread. Too many possessions in the way can also cause a tripping hazard. A lot of are people hospitalized every year from falling. If you have things not packed away properly, it can pose a serious risk for injury.

4. Bugs and Rodents

Bugs and rodents love to hide. Having too many things will cause them find hiding places. Mice love to chew on papers and boxes. Roaches can eat anything to survive. Various bugs will like to make your possessions their home. Having too many possessions will make it impossible to clean regularly.

5. Mental fatigue

Think back to when you first moved into your home or apartment. How nice and clean it was when you moved in. It made you feel clear minded and open. That’s because there wasn’t anything around to be cluttered. This is why we feel so good right after we shower. We cleaned up and that sent a euphoric feeling to the brain of relief. Having too many possession in our life can make it difficult for us to focus. It makes it difficult for us to keep track of things. Have you ever looked for something you needed but couldn’t find it. Then you ended up buying it again. Having a lot of things can make it difficult to find what you need even though you probably have it. This clutter contributes to mental fatigue and that can be harmful to you overall.

Conclusion

You see having too many possession in your life can be unhealthy  for you. You can always change that by opting to live minimally. You can sure do a lot more with less. I recommend to start gradually. It’s never too late to make your life easier to live and being minimal is a great start.
